“Driven tunesmith, Corby Holcomb paints unpretentious portraits in his songs.  His music, featuring some of the finest voices from the Texas Hill Country, makes you want to stand up and sing along.  So sit back, pop a top, and give this Austin native a good listen.  It’s well worth it!” – Helen Darling, writer of Grammy nominated and number one hit song “Bring on the Rain”- featuring Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw.

About Me

Growing up in Austin, Texas, I was surrounded by an amazing music scene and amazing musicians.  When I was a kid, there was always music around my house.  My mother played piano, my dad played guitar, and my brother played bass guitar.  Legend has it that my grandfather on my mom’s side, Ellis Yocum, was one of the original members of the Geezinslaw’s Band, one of the first bands from Austin to make the national scene  in the 1950’s and 60’s.  Unfortunately, he passed away before I was born, so I never got to meet him.  My grandma said I have his music in my veins.

I have always enjoyed all kinds of music, but my early years were spent playing sports and then pursuing a career as an attorney.  I have been blessed with an amazing and supportive wife and four outstanding boys.  Once my first child was born,  I told my dad that I wanted to learn guitar so that I could provide the same happy memories of having music around the house for my kids that I enjoyed as a child.  My dad showed up at my house a few days later with an extra guitar that my uncle said I could have and he started teaching me a few chords.  When I first strummed the guitar there was a spark, and I was hooked!

I have been playing guitar for the past 14 years and in the last few years have fallen in love with songwriting. Little did I know that 20 years of communicating and trying to convince juries of a point I was trying to get across would be the perfect segue into songwriting.  In fact, drafting a closing argument is very similar to writing a song.  They both have a structure, a theme (chorus), have to appeal to the emotions of your audience, have to a story tell, and have to be genuine and from the heart.   I have found that having to put myself in the shoes of others and then convey those experiences and emotions to my audience (the jury) has been preparing me for writing songs for my music audience all of these years.   The big difference between trial work and songwriting for me is that in a jury trial I am limited by the facts of the case.  With songwriting, there are no limitations.  In songwriting, you can write about anything you can imagine in this world and out of this world.  Any emotion, thought, concept, or idea is fair game.  And as it turned out, I have an ear for music and melodies, a knack for rhyming words, and a passion for writing lyrics that embrace the human experience.

I currently live in Dripping Springs, Texas, and have written quite a few songs,  ten of which to date have been fully produced and recorded at “The Zone” recording studio (thanks to Pat Manske) and are available on all online music stores (see  links below).   Songwriting is my passion and I am constantly continuing to write new songs!  So stay tuned, there will be many more songs to come!

“When I met Corby, he was an attorney…but an attorney with a love for music.  It’s kinda crazy how fast he’s gone from just having a dream of learning to play guitar and write songs to actually doing it!  Kudos Corby for chasing the dream!”  -Jesse Reeves, songwriter of number one hit song “How Great is Our God.”

I was honored to have one of my songs “And We Danced” as a finalist for the 2019 Texas Troubadour Songwriting Song of the Year Competition (check it out below).  I have also had one of my songs  played on KOKE Fm Austin, Texas, and BPN Radio stations.  I frequently perform my songs at the open mic nights and showcases at Hudson’s on Mercer Street, in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Growing up, I listened to many types of music and when I write songs,  I write in broad genres of music:  Country, Americana, Singer/Songwriter, Pop, Raggae, etc., as I love all kinds of music.  What I love about songwriting is the creative freedom that I can immerse myself in and write about anything that comes to me.  Music for me is an expression of my heart and soul and an outlet for all of the many human emotions that life’s experiences have to offer.

I hope you enjoy my music which you can find in all online music stores in the links below.  You can also contact and follow me in the links below.
